Stress effect of Cortisol human body

The human body is hard-wired to react against stress and is meant to protect you against threats from aggressors through a flight-or-fight response. It increases the levels of adrenaline and cortisol for a short period of time. Stress may be a positive type—eustress, where a person may control it easily. Another type of stress is negative stress, known as distress, where the situation becomes chaotic and beyond his control. TYPES OF STRESS There are three grades of stress 1. Positive stress: a brief period of increased heart rate and BP release of stress hormones adrenaline and cortisol. 2. Tolerable stress: temporary stress response relieved by supportive people around 3. Toxic stress: – prolonged period of stress without any supportive relationship advice or friends.   Once a perceived threat is over, hormone levels return to normal. Adrenaline and cortisol levels drop and thereby respond to the body. Your heart rate and blood pressure return to normal levels, and other systems resume their regular activities. But when the stressors are present continuously or for a longer time and the flight-or-fight response is turned on continuously, it wreaks havoc on your body and mind. It overall cuts your life span drastically. HPA AXIS: In the brain hypothalamus, it triggers the release of CRH, the corticotrophin hormone, which activates the pituitary gland, which releases the hormone ACTH, the adrenocorticotrophic hormone, which is carried by the blood to the adrenal gland, which releases the stress hormone cortisol and adrenalin.
